Under 21’s Fall To Greencastle

Our Under 21’s made the journey to Greencastle for their second game in the All County U-21 Grade 2B league and fell to a defeat against a very strong Greencastle team. The young Sarsfields got off to a bad start conceding a goal after 2 minutes. Points in quick succession from Aaron Montgomery and Eamon Rea brought the visitors back into the game however further setbacks resulted in the home team having a comfortable lead approaching half  time as their ability to take their goal chances was reflected on the scoreboard.  Three late points from the boot of Montgomery left the score 6-01 to 0-5 at the interval.

The half time break seemed to galvanise the Sarsfields as they produced a much improved performance in the second half.  Despite conceding a goal and two points in the first 3 minutes of the second half, to their credit, Drumragh fought back and gained a foothold in the game. A Tommy Mullin free together with a goal from Eamon Rea, which was the result of a penalty won by substitute Ronan Maguire, brought the Drumragh lads a measure of reward for their endeavours. Further points from Darragh O’Kane and Eamon Rea and a late Greencastle point concluded the scoring leaving the final score, Drumragh 1-08  Greencastle 7-04.

Eamon Rea led the forward line with tremendous endeavour very much leading from the front and received good support from Aaron Montgomery and Dean Carroll, while there was a promising debut in defence for Ryan McGaughey.  The lads can take heart from their second half performance and enjoyed parity on the score board. Their next game is home to Kildress at Clanabogan Park on Saturday 10th February 2018.
