Drumragh minor ladies ahead of their game against Fintona on Monday

Fintona………………….6-10
Drumragh………………..4-7

Drumragh minor ladies were beaten by Fintona in their second league game of the year on Monday evening.

The final scoreline, however, was harsh on a Drumragh side that recovered from a rocky start to play really well.

Fintona led 2-3 to no score after only a few minutes. They also forced Drumragh goalkeeper Orla Loughran into a spectacular save early on, one of several she would make throughout the game.

Drumragh, to their credit, settled and were the better side for the remainder of the half. Aoibhinn Gallagher and Breanna Breslin got a foothold around midfield, Iona Mills, Evie Gallagher and Grace Norris were defending well and the forward line came into the game. They got on the scoreboard with a well-taken penalty from Caoimhe McCarron, awarded after Emma-Cait Gallagher had been fouled.

Sorcha McKenna followed that up with a couple of frees after fouls on Emma-Cait Gallagher and Caoimhe McCarron. Erin Coyle then set Julieanne Quinn up for a good point from play as Drumragh fought their way back into the game.

Fintona stretched out their lead with a couple of points but goals from Sorcha McKenna and Ella Smyth, alongside a good point from play from Caoimhe McCarron, gave Drumragh a one-point lead (3-4 to 2-6) at half-time.

Fintona got a goal straight from the throw-in to go back into the lead but Drumragh responded really well with a goal of their own not long after. A brilliant team move involving Sorcha McKenna, Eimear Mullin and Emma-Cait Gallagher allowed Caoimhe McCarron to finish well past the Fintona goalkeeper.

Mia Gallagher and Josie Hughes were having super games in the Drumragh defence and helped stop a number of Fintona attacks as the second half went on. They were also playing some good football going forward and were denied a couple of goals with saves from the home goalkeeper. Sorcha McKenna did kick a point from play but Fintona went back ahead with a few scores.

Sorcha McKenna converted a free after she was fouled and Ella Smyth then landed an excellent long-range point.

But Fintona finished the scoring with a point and a goal late on. A deserved win for Fintona but a very good performance from Drumragh.
