Drumragh U16 girls after their win over Beragh in the league

Drumragh………………..11-6
Beragh……………………..4-5

A couple of days before the GAA announced the suspension of all club games, Drumragh U16 girls played Beragh in the league at Clanabogan and came away with a comprehensive victory.

It was a terrific performance from Drumragh who never trailed throughout and played some brilliant football during the game.

Erin Coyle opened the scoring with a stylish left-footed point from a tight angle after she had taken a good catch from a Caoimhe McCarron pass.

The lead was soon extended thanks to a wonderful individual goal from half-forward Emma McCloskey. Having caught a kickout, Emma drove through the Beragh defence before finishing well past the goalkeeper.

The Drumragh defence started the game fantastically with Iona Mills, Josie Hughes and Cassie McCabe all playing really well, not giving the Beragh forwards any space.

Caoimhe McCarron kicked a free following a foul on Eimear Mullin before Beragh got their first score of the game and they then quickly got in for a goal.

But Drumragh answered that with a goal from Caoimhe McCarron after a good team move involving Evie Gallagher and Emma-Cait Gallagher.

Beragh started to exert some pressure but Drumragh goalkeeper Megan Pritchard dealt so well with a number of high balls in and Alisha Brophy also made an important block to deny them a goal. Beragh did, however, get a couple of scores leaving it a tie game.

However, a goal from Aoibhinn Gallagher meant Drumragh went in at half-time with a three-point lead.

Caoimhe McCarron scored three goals against Beragh

Emma-Cait Gallagher got the first score of the second half with a goal and she soon added another after good play from Genevieve Norris and Aoibhinn Gallagher. Genevieve then set Evie Gallagher up for a point as Drumragh made a confident start to the second half.

Beragh scored three goals in a short space of time to bring themselves right back into the game, with Drumragh’s only reply in this time a wonderful individual point from Genevieve Norris. Megan Pritchard also produced a great save in the Drumragh goals to stop Beragh from going ahead

Drumragh responded brilliantly to this though and dominated the remainder of the game. Emma-Cait Gallagher completed her hat-trick with a confident finish, Caoimhe McCarron got a good goal and so did Carla Mullin after good play from Eimear Mullin and Emma McCloskey.

There was no let-up in the defensive effort from Drumragh with Emma Kearney, Iona Mills and Cassie McCabe all impressing.

Emma-Cait Gallagher (2) and Caoimhe McCarron found the net again before the end and Caoimhe picked up a couple of points following good play from Erin Coyle, Evie Gallagher and Eimear Mullin, to complete a good team display and win.

Scorers: Emma-Cait Gallagher 5-0, Caoimhe McCarron 3-3 Carla Mullin 1-0, Emma McCloskey 1-0, Aoibhinn Gallagher 1-0, Erin Coyle 0-1, Genevieve Norris 0-1, Evie Gallagher 0-1
