Drumragh senior ladies ahead of their game against Badoney

Badoney…………..0-9
Drumragh……….1-12

Drumragh senior ladies picked up their first victory of the season with a deserved six-point win over Badoney.

Drumragh led from the moment Joanne Barrett put them ahead with a brilliant individual score in the second minute. Badoney did go level with a free and they had other chances too only for Edel Meenagh and Cobliath McKenna to keep them out.

Grace O’Neill put Drumragh back in front with a nice score after Julieanne Quinn had turned the ball over in a dangerous position.

Drumragh soon took a grip on the game with the only goal of the contest. Neamh Woods won the ball around midfield, and after a strong run through the Badoney defence, she popped a pass off to Eva McCaul who finished well past the goalkeeper with her left foot.

Eva McCaul then stretched out Drumragh’s lead with a good point after Sorcha McKenna and Kathryn Donaghey exchanged passes and found her in a bit of space.

Badoney hit back with a couple of points and started to come into the game more. Claire McGread, Neamh Woods, Claire McLaughlin and Joanne Barrett all did well to prevent Badoney eating further into the lead.

Drumragh responded though with Caoimhe McCarron and Rachel Cleary combining to set up Eva McCaul for another point. A free for Badoney saw the half end with a three-point lead for Drumragh.

Badoney opened the scoring in the second half but Neamh Woods answered back for Drumragh with a point. Neamh was then fouled and Eva McCaul kicked a free over the bar.

Both teams looked dangerous when going forward, creating opportunities. Neamh Woods forced the Badoney goalkeeper into a good save while Blanaid McGarvey, Clodagh Loughran and Josie Hughes were performing well in the Drumragh defence.

Aoibhinn Gallagher did well to win a difficult ball into forward line, she was in turn fouled and Eva McCaul was able to convert another free. Eva got another soon after, Neamh Woods fouled this time.

The teams swapped points – Julieanne Quinn on target for Drumragh – but the away side were getting more and more on top as the game neared a finish.

Good play from Joanne Barrett created a chance for Rachel Cleary, which was taken, and then Coblaith McKenna, Iona Mills and Julieanne Quinn set up Kathryn Donaghey for a good point.

The Drumragh defence restricted Badoney to a single free towards the end of the game. Claire McGread, Joanne Barrett and Blanaid McGarvey were prominent in the defensive effort while goalkeeper Oonagh McMackin dealt well with a couple of high balls into the square.

A point from Aoibhinn Gallagher ended the scoring and was enough for a great win for Drumragh.
