Drumragh reserves got their season off to the perfect start with an impressive five-point win over Strabane at Clanabogan on Friday evening.

A strong first-half performance laid the foundation for the victory with goals with Lee Brown, Alex McGlinchey and Daniel O’Neill contributing to a 10-point lead at the break.

Alex McGlinchey opened the scoring for Drumragh with a point after Tommy Mullin and Paddy Roche had combined to create the chance and then Daniel O’Neill added another as the home side settled quickly into the game.

It wasn’t long before the first goal arrived. Lee Brown gathered possession in the half-back line, and drove forward. He broke through a number of tackles before unleashing a brilliant shot past the goalkeeper.

Strabane got on the board with a point but Drumragh went straight up to the other end of the field to get their second goal of the game through Alex McGlinchey.

Ben Monk and Tommy Mullin added points, as did Daniel O’Neill, who caught a kickout, moved through the Strabane defence before firing over for a great score.

Strabane hit 1-2 unanswered and a brilliant block from Drumragh full-back Mark Carroll stopped them from finding the net again.

But Drumragh regained a bit of control with a strong end to the half. Alex McGlinchey kicked a point and Daniel O’Neill added a third goal while Ben Monk and Tommy Mullin were also on target. Tommy’s score was at the end of a move started by a bit of great defensive work from Blaine Feeney and Ben.

Drumragh goalkeeper Charlie Colton produced a fine save at the start of the second half to deny Strabane. They did get a couple of early points in the second half as they looked to get back into the game. Paddy Roche responded for Drumragh with two nice points. That was to be Drumragh’s last scores of the match, but the defence kept up the pressure – highlighted by a brilliant goal line clearance from Brendan McGrath – and picked up their first two points of the year despite an injury time goal for Strabane
