Drumragh U14 girls beat Castlederg in the league on Sunday morning

Drumragh U14 girls had a fantastic win away to Castlederg on Sunday morning.

It was a brilliant performance from Drumragh who fully deserved their victory.

The home side opened the scoring with a point but Drumragh were unfortunate not to answer back straight away. A clever kickout from goalkeeper Chloe McGale found Rihanna Mullin and the ball moved through the hands of Eabha McGale, Dana Coyle and Roisin Gormley whose shot was well saved by the Castlederg goalkeeper.

But Drumragh didn’t have to wait long to go in front. Eabha Coyle played a good ball into Dana Coyle who finished well to the back of the net for a great goal.

Castlederg closed the gap with a point and had the Drumragh defence under pressure for a while. However, Anna Clarke, Eireann Boyle and Oonagh Pancott stood up well to protect the lead.

And Drumragh took advantage of that strong defending with their second goal. Nora McCloskey, Ciara McGuigan and Rihanna Mullin moved the ball upfield to Sadhbh Duncan who fired past the goalkeeper from a very tight angle.

Back came Castlederg who forced an excellent save from Drumragh goalkeeper Chloe McGale with Mary-Kate Montague completing the clearance.

Drumragh had their goal chances too with Dana Coyle smashing the ball off the crossbar after a terrific run through the centre of the Castlederg defence.

Rihanna Mullin increased Drumragh’s lead with a nice point, in a move that started with a turnover by Anna Clarke in the Drumragh full-back line.

Castlederg scored a goal and a point in quick succession to come back into the game.

The game was end-to-end. Roisin Gormley kicked a good score after Eabha McGale won the ball back for Drumragh, while Oonagh Pancott stopped dangerous Castlederg attacks on a number of occasions.

A good team move involving Rihanna Mullin, Dana Coyle and Sadhbh Duncan ended with a nice point from Eabha Coye and another save from Chloe McGale at the other end of pitch meant Drumragh held a two-point lead at the break.

Drumragh got off to a good start in the second half with Sadhbh Duncan steering the ball over the bar after a good pass inside from Rihanna Mullin.

The teams were soon level though when Castlederg got in for a goal. They had other chances too and Drumragh had to rely on Mary-Kate Montague and Aoibhinn Dolan in order to not go behind.

Sadhbh Duncan put Drumragh ahead again with another fantastic point after Niamh Colton had won the ball back around midfield. That was followed up by a point from Dana Coyle and then another from Rihanna Mullin, who had been set up by Ciara McGuigan and Dearbhaille McLaughlin.

Chloe McGale had to be alert to make another save and that allowed Drumragh to go up the field and kick two quick scores through Dana Coyle and Sadhbh Duncan.

Castlederg needed a goal and got one entering injury time leaving it a one-score game. They had the chances but Oonagh Pancott and Nora McCloskey defended well ensuring Drumragh held on for what was a brilliant win.
