Drumragh U16 girls get first league win

Drumragh U16 girls won their first game of the season on Tuesday evening

Drumragh U16 girls had a great win in the league over visitors Strabane Sigersons at Clanabogan Park on
Tuesday evening. It was the first win of the year for the girls and a brilliant performance ahead of the
rest of the league campaign.

The girls got off to a flying start, winning the ball from the throw in and fighting hard to keep hold of
possession. Brilliant runs from Dana Coyle on the ball found Rihanna Mullin who passed to Mollie
Starrs. Mollie found Rhianna Barrett who finished the ball in the back of the net.

After winning the kickout, Caoimhe McCarron got herself on the score sheet with a great point. Caoimhe again worked hard and found the back of the net herself, with the girls 2-1 to no score up within the first eight
minutes.

The Drumragh girls worked hard and put serious pressure on the Strabane defence with both Mollie
Starrs and Aimee-Lee Burt having shots on goal which were well saved by the visitors. Strabane then
managed to work the ball up the field and got their first point from a free on the 13 metre line, on the
ten-minute mark.

The Drumragh defence worked hard to fend off any attacks, with Fianna McGuigan
and Lily O’Kane working well together and turning the ball over. Chloe McGale had a brilliant
performance with some great saves and excellent kickouts, ensuring the Drumragh girls were well
set up on the attack.

A sideline ball from Grace McCusker found Caoimhe McCarron who passed to Rihanna Mullin and Rihanna got herself on the scoresheet with a good point. Another free for Dana Coyle ended up with a Caoimhe McCarron point.

Strabane persisted on the attack and good linking play from Fionnuala Clarke and Grace McCusker
ensured that any danger was well cleared. The half finished with a toss-up which was well won by
Mairead Corrigan who passed to Rihanna Mullin who added another point to her tally. This sent the
Drumragh ladies in 2-5 to 0-3 up at half time.

The introduction of Aimee McCaughey into the full back line and Fionnuala Barrett and Jemma
Barrett into the full forward line ensured Drumragh were ready to attack the second half. The girls
started well with a brilliant goal attempt from Mia Feeney saved by the Strabane keeper.

Rihanna Mullin caught the rebounding ball and got a point. Cara Kerlin, Oonagh Pancott and Aimee
McCaughey all worked tirelessly in defence to break down any attacks and force turnovers. Lily
O’Kane picked up a breaking ball and found Rihanna Mullin who passed to Dana Coyle. Dana’s
attempt on goal was forced wide and the 45 was taken by Rihanna Mullin. Rihanna passed to Dana
Coyle and the ball went over the bar.

Mairead Corrigan and Mia Feeney worked hard to link up play and work the ball into the forward
line. Cara McManus was also brought into the full forward line and ensured the Drumragh girls had
plenty of life in them to see the game out.

Another well worked point from Caoimhe McCarron was added to the scoresheet and the resulting kickout was won by Rihanna Mullin who punished the Strabane side by putting the ball in the back of the net. The next kickout was won by Caoimhe McCarron and this was passed to Mia Feeney who got a well-deserved point.

Another point from Dana Coyle finished the scoring and the game finished on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-06.
