Drumragh U16 girls before their game against Fintona

Drumragh U16 girls had their first game of the season on Tuesday away to neighbours Fintona.

The pressure was on the girls instantly as the strong Fintona side made their way onto the
scoreboard and were very much in control for the opening 10 minutes. Genevieve Norris and Lily
O’Kane worked hard in defence to break down the Fintona attacks and create turnovers. Dana Coyle
won the ball in the middle of the field and made a great run which saw the ball into the back of the
net and got the Sarsfields onto the scoreboard.

Fionnuala Clarke, Oonagh Pancott and Grace McCusker all worked tirelessly in defence to challenge
their opponents and win possession. Mairead Corrigan and Rihanna Mullin worked well together in
midfield creating plenty of choice for goalkeeper Fianna McGuigan to target with kickouts.

Cara McManus, Rihanna Barrett and Aimee-Lee Burt all worked hard in the forward line to create
opportunities despite a strong Fintona defence. Rihanna Mullin won a great kickout in the middle of
the field and passed into Caoimhe McCarron who found the back of the net.

A few half-time changes ensured the Drumragh girls saw out the second half well under the
scorching conditions. A point from Caoimhe McCarron settled the girls into the second half and the
girls looked much more confident.

A misplaced Fintona kickout was then well won by Rhianna Mullin who also found the back of the net.
Jemma Barrett, Mollie Starrs and Caitlin Gallagher-Arruda worked hard to create space and
movement and assist with the Drurmagh attacks.

A great kickout from Genevieve Norris in goals found Dana Coyle in the middle of the park. Dana worked hard and passed the ball to Rihanna Barrett who finished the move well with another goal for the Drurmagh girls.

After the water break, another great kickout from Genevieve Norris found Rihanna Mullin who linked up
well with Dana Coyle to get the ball up to the forward line. Caoimhe McCarron made a great run off
the shoulder and a well-timed pass from Dana set up a great point for Caoimhe.

The girls worked tirelessly to get the ball out of defence and up to the forwards, despite a strong Fintona defence. An attempt on goal which was a solid team effort led by Rhianna Mullin and Caoimhe McCarron was
then blocked down by Fintona. The breaking ball was won by Mollie Starrs who got a great point.

Another good point from Rihanna Barrett saw the end of the scoring for Drumagh and despite some
great goals and hard work, they could not overcome the strong Fintona team.
