Drumragh senior ladies move on to championship quarter-final

Drumragh……….2-14 | Galbally……….3-5

Drumragh senior ladies progressed to the championship quarter-final with a six-point win over Galbally in Beragh on Saturday afternoon.

It was a good performance from Drumragh, who now face Clann na nGael in the last eight.

Galbally opened the scoring, but Beth Donaghy soon had Drumragh level with a nice point from play after Rhianna Barrett had set her up. Beth then put Drumragh in front with a free after a foul on Caoimhe McCarron.

Galbally threatened, and hit a point on the counter attack. They almost got in for a goal too, but a great piece of defending from Josephine Quinn cleared the danger.

Points from Aine McManus, Sorcha McKenna and Beth Donaghy (2) put Drumragh ahead again on the scoreboard. And they didn’t have to wait long for their first goal. Caoimhe McCarron applied the finish at the end of a flowing team move involving Rihanna Mullin, Coblaith McKenna and Julieanne Quinn.

Galbally came back into the game, however. Two goals and a point brought the team level once again. But another brilliant team move involving Evie Gallagher, Shannon Starrs and Julieanne Quinn ended with Beth Donaghy scoring Drumragh’s second goal. The referee blew the half-time whistle after the kickout that followed.

Galbally’s third goal at the start of the second half meant the teams were level again. But Drumragh responded well. Sorcha McKenna was on target with Beth Donaghy, Amy Cox and Aine McManus all adding points.

The Drumragh defence performed brilliantly too with Josie Hughes, Joanne Barrett and Clare McGread in the full-back line stopping a number of Galbally. They also had a chance to get back into the game when awarded two penalties in the space of 60 seconds. But Drumragh goalkeeper Laura-Jayne Donnelly produced two excellent saves to preserve Drumragh’s lead.

Further scores from Aine McManus (2) and Coblaith McKenna secured Drumragh’s passage into the next round.
