‘The Great Game’ was officially unveiled to our Members on Monday night at the Stew Sessions. Eoin McGread, Co-ordinator, took to the stage to introduce the concept to all those at Clanabogan Park and gave a brief overview of the challenge ahead.
“In 2011, we embarked on ‘The Great Solo Run’, setting 150 of our members from here at Clanabogan Park onto the roads all the way to Croke Park, over 100 miles away.
Last year, our Summer Festival included placing a huge marquee on our now tarmaced parking area, to welcome our own Barry Kirwan and his band to the stage, for some reason this guy Derek Ryan always stood at the front and sang. We also welcomed the Kilkenny and of course the weekend was headlined by our own Strictly Come Dancing competitors.”
Eoin reminded all those present that “It has been these fundraising events in recent years that show we aren’t a club that shies away from a challenge”. While ‘The Great Game’ has now been launched to our members, the full media and jersey launch is still something we look forward too.
Logistically, ‘The Great Game’ will be a huge operation including the necessity to comply with Guinness World Record standards. Every participant must be pre-registered before the ball is thrown in, every score logged and every minute of the game recorded.
In two weeks time, we will be launching ‘The Great Game’ to the local press and we will open registration for participants and sponsors. Before then, discuss this initiative with your family, friends and work colleagues. Look out for more details on the club’s Facebook page and website. Come chat to Eoin McGread, Rory Cox or Paddy Roche if you have any questions about the event or would like to get involved with the organisation.
