Tyrone beat Antrim 2-9 to 0-6 on Wednesday night to progress to the Dr McKenna Cup semi-finals from Section A. Goals from Padraig McNulty and Lee Brennan helped ensure that holders Tyrone secured a semi-final against Fermanagh in Clones on Sunday.
McNulty got the Red Hands off to the best possible start at Healy Park as he found the Saffrons’ net just 26 seconds into the game. Ronan O’Neill contributed two frees and Brennan one, while goalkeeper Niall Morgan popped up with two 45’s. It took Antrim 32 minutes to register a score, with Michael McCann pointing, then Colm Fleming adding another.
Morgan made a fine save to deny Brian Neeson, before Brennan executed a superb individual goal to give his side a 2-5 to 0-2 lead at the interval. Fleming added another three points in the second half, and McCann one, but Hugh Pat McGeary was named man-of-the-match as Mickey Harte’s men ran out nine-point victors.
