Our Senior Ladies play Aghyaran in the League Final on Saturday evening. This will be the Ladies’ second final of the season having also played Aghyaran in the Championship Final. We’re still awaiting confirmation of time and venue. Over the coming days we’ll be taking a look back at previous Ladies finals starting with our first ever Ladies title at Adult level. The article below was published in the UlsterHerald following the win over Strabane in 2009.
The Senior Ladies made history for the Droim Ratha na Sarseil Club on Sunday in Drumquin when they won the Grade 4 League title. Their opponents were a distinguished Strabane side.
The Sigersons girls, playing against the breeze, opened the game with a superb goal followed by two unanswered points. After a barren opening quarter wind assisted Drumragh settled with their first point coming from All star Neamh Woods playing at midfield.
From then onwards the dogged Drumragh side controlled much of the remainder of the first half. Skippered by the 2009 Vodafone Allstar Nominee Sinead McLaughlin Drumragh’s defence enjoyed the upper hand initially. Goals by the on-song Niamh McLaughlin, Aisling Mullan and Neamh Woods and points from the same trio and Oonagh McMacken left it 3-10 to 13 at the break
This game was certainly a game of two halves. Strabane came out after the break with a nothing to lose attitude and took the game to Drumragh. They dominated the third quarter with some great scores which brought the gap back to within five points with ten minutes remaining.
Drumragh however were to take the final score which handed them suitable breathing space to see off their opponents. This is only Drumragh Senior Ladies third year in competition and with their U16’s already league title winners the Club is certainly ending the season on a high.
