Our Under 14’s travelled to Aghyaran on Saturday to continue their league campaign, coming away with both league points. The Boys went into the game in confident mood following two wins and a narrow two point defeat to Beragh. Drumragh made a slow start to the game as several scoring opportunities went amiss due to handling errors. However the forward line kept the scoreboard ticking over as Kian Murphy, Aaron Lynch and others combined throughout the half. Good defensive work from the full back line including Carraig McKenna, Conor Barrett and Brendan Quinn restricted many of Aghyaran’s attacks while Matthew O’Donnell and Niall McCarney worked well in midfield. Half time score – Drumragh 1-4, Aghyaran 1-2
In the second half the Boys handling improved immensely and this showed with some well taken scores. The half was nip and tuck throughout however Aghyaran took advantage of a couple of defensive mistakes to take the lead, striking the Sarsfields net twice in quick succession. The home team were leading by nine points going into the last fifteen minutes but Drumragh continued to work hard to get scores. The introduction of Niall Maguire, Ryan Montgomery and Sean O’Kane into the forward line gave the Sarsfields a fresh impetus and this was rewarded when Aaron Lynch and Niall Maguire struck cooly to the back of the Aghyaran net. Further points from Kian Murphy, Aaron Lynch and others turned the game on its head and gave Drumragh the victory. The Boys put in a fantastic performance in the last quarter of the game and showed great character to turn around a nine point deficit to win by two. Full time score – Drumragh 4-09, Aghyaran 5-04.
