Reserves Secure First Points of the Season

Drumragh Reserves claimed their first points of the season with a comfortable win at Clogher on Sunday.

Drumragh started brightly and led by 3 points after 10 minutes through points by Cathal Gallagher (2) and a long range effort from Gareth McGrath. Clogher grabbed a foothold in the game and fought back to level with three points in a two minute spell approaching the midway point of the first half. A Darragh O’Kane point restored the lead before James Broderick rifled a shot to the net following great approach work by Ciaran Donaghey and Darragh O’Kane. Donaghey himself finished off a flowing move with a well taken point to ease Drumragh into a seemingly comfortable 5 point lead. Further scores from Cathal Gallagher and Gareth McGrath extended the lead to 7 points before a speculative effort fortuitously found its way to the back of the net and Clogher were back in game. Shane Devine tagged on a point just before half time, to leave the score at the short whistle Clogher 1-4 Drumragh 1-9.

Any thoughts of a comeback were put to bed early in the second half as the rattled over five unanswered points from Gareth McGrath, Shane Devine, Dean Carroll, Oran Donaghey and Brendan McGrath. Three unanswered Clogher points briefly revived home hopes. However, despite Clogher adding a further two points in the last five minutes, further scores from Cathal Gallagher (2) and Oisin McCullagh left the final score Clogher 1-9 Drumragh 1-17.

A feature of the Drumragh performance was their accuracy from distance and their general team play with 10 different scorers contributing to the total.

Team: Charlie Colton; Mark Carroll, Fergal McCarney; Ciaran Donaghey (0-1), Ronan McGale, Dean Carroll (0-1); Gareth McGrath (0-4) and Shane Devine (0-1); Darragh O’Kane (0-1), Cathal Gallagher (0-5), Brendan McGrath (0-1); Oran Donaghy (0-1), James Broderick (1-0)

Subs: Eoin Rea for Shane Devine, Garbhan McKenna for Gareth McGrath, Danny McCormack for James Broderick, Oisin McCullagh (0-1) for Oran Donaghy
