Drumragh U14 boys got their season off to the perfect start on Saturday morning with a brilliant league win over Omagh at Clanabogan Park.
It was a wonderful team performance from Drumragh, who defended superbly, attacked with purpose and picked off some excellent scores throughout the game.
Full-forward Finn Collins got them on their way, opening the scoring by volleying the ball soccer-style over the bar from off the ground. Omagh soon equalised but a run of 1-5 without response put Drumragh firmly in control of the game.
Niall Maguire got the goal and added a long-range free with Conor Barrett (2), Aidan McCarney and Finn Collins the other pointscorers.
The Drumragh defence were making it really difficult for the Omagh forward line during this time getting in a number of vital last-ditch blocks.
Omagh pointed again but Drumragh responded with a great score from Niall, following a flowing team move involving midfielders Ryan Montgomery and Turlough Collins. A nice point from play from Ryan himself left the half-time score 1-8 to 0-2 in Drumragh’s favour.

Omagh made a bright start to the second half and got in for their first goal. Drumragh responded well, however, with a nice Aidan McCarney point. And they soon scored their second goal through Finn Collins who was awarded a penalty having being tripped by a defender. The Omagh goalkeeper made a wonderful save from the resulting kick but the rebound came back to Finn and he made no mistake the second time.
Niall Maguire converted a difficult free and soon after added a terrific individual score. Omagh scored a couple of late goals but further points from Niall Maguire, Finn Collins and sub Dara Cox saw Drumragh secure a fantastic and fully deserved opening day victory.
