Greencastle…………….1-20
Drumragh……………….1-12
A strong second half performance saw Greencastle beat Drumragh minor boys in the league on Thursday evening.
A tight first half saw the home side go in at the break a point ahead. A hard-working Drumragh defence had restricted the Greencastle forward line well and the Drumragh attack took most of the opportunities they created.
An early Daniel O’Neill goal had Drumragh in front but four points put Greencastle in the lead.
Drumragh replied with a close-range free from Eoin Montgomery after Oran McElroy had forced the Greencastle goalkeeper into a mistake. Oran was fouled shortly afterwards allowing Eoin to tap over another free and Drumragh had the lead again.
A Greencastle 45 brought the sides level again only for Eoin Montgomery to respond with a free.
Greencastle were then awarded a penalty which was converted and a good save in the following attack from Drumragh goalkeeper Paul Devine denied them stretching out their lead further.
Eoin Montgomery, Daniel O’Neill and Oran McElroy all pointed before half-time leaving the half-time score 1-7 to 1-6.
The second half started much like the first half had gone. Points from Greencastle were answered by Drumragh with good scores from Eoin Montgomery (2) and Oran McElroy.
Greencastle then went on a 9-1 run leaving them well ahead and this was the winning of the game for them. Alex McGlinchey got Drumragh’s point in this period, a good score after a quick Drumragh break out of defence.
Drumragh finished the game well with Oran McElroy and Ben Monk both kicking the ball over the bar. They created a couple of goal chances as well but weren’t able to convert any, meaning Greencastle ran out eight-point winners.
