Drumragh seniors suffered a disappointing 1-10 to 0-10 loss to Glenelly in the Tyrone All-County League in Plumbridge on Sunday.

In a game as tight as this, a goal was always going to be important and it was the home side that got it, a good top corner finish from their half-forward in the final 10 minutes. It was the difference in the end.

It was Glenelly who made the better start and they soon established a 0-4 to 0-1 lead hitting a few good scores from play. Drumragh’s response early on coming from a Shane Cleary free, after Paddy Colgan had been fouled.

A foul on Shane Devine allowed Shane Cleary to kick over another free but Glenelly responded to go back into a three-point lead, 0-5 to 0-2.

Drumragh finished the half strongly though. Midfielder Eamonn McCann scored a terrific long-range point, Shane Devine put the ball over the bar from a tight angle and Shane Cleary brought the sides level with another free. Drumragh went ahead for the first time in the game with Shane Cleary’s fourth point of the half.

The teams went in even at the break, however. Having forced a turnover in their own defence, Glenelly broke forward quickly, allowing their centre-forward to kick over the leveller.

Shane Devine opened the scoring in the second half with a very similar score to his point in the opening period, only this time with his left foot. He soon added another point from play as Drumragh made a confident start to the second half.

Eoin Montgomery then stretched out Drumragh’s lead with the score of the game, a great long-range effort from near the sideline.

Glenelly brought it back to a one-point game with a couple of scores but Shane Cleary responded for Drumragh with a free, won by brave and determined play by Paddy Colgan.

However, that was to be Drumragh’s last score of the contest. Glenelly got in for the goal not long after and were able to deal with any late Drumragh attacks. A free from the Glenelly goalkeeper with the last kick of the game secured a three-point victory for the home side.
