Late defeat for Drumragh minor ladies

Orla Kearney scored two goals for Drumragh minor ladies against Beragh on Monday evening

Drumragh………………..5-9
Beragh…………………..7-10

A couple of late goals from Beragh gave them a win over Drumragh minor ladies in a high-scoring league game at Clanabogan on Monday evening.

In an entertaining game, the lead changed hands several times and it was Beragh who held it first with a goal. But Drumragh were soon level thanks to a goal from Emma-Cait Gallagher who was set up by a smart pass from Orla Kearney.

Beragh went back ahead but Sorcha McKenna answered that with a point after Drumragh had hit the post twice in a matter of seconds.

Beragh got a point but Drumragh took the lead for the first time with an Orla Kearney goal following good play from Eimear Mullin and Caoimhe McCarron.

A great block from Mia Gallagher stopped Beragh from getting an instant response at the other end of the field.

Both sides had chances but it was Beragh who got in for a score next, a goal, and they quickly added a point. Sorcha McKenna replied with a free for Drumragh following a foul on Julieanne Quinn.

It took good play in the Drumragh defence from goalkeeper Aine MacRory, Josie Hughes, Alisha Brophy and Orla Loughran to deny Beragh from extending their lead.

Fouls on Julieanne Quinn and Emma-Cait Gallagher allowed Sorcha McKenna to put Drumragh back in front with a couple of frees. Beragh finished the half strong though and went in at half-time leading by a goal.

The second half continued much as the first half had gone, the two sides each getting some good scores. Caoimhe McCarron got a nice point from play and Emma-Cait Gallagher found the back of the net again having been set up by Caoimhe and Breanna Breslin. Orla Kearney also got her second goal of the game and Drumragh had the lead once again.

Orla Loughran made a good save from a Beragh attacker one-on-one while Mia Gallagher, Emma Cox, Cassie McCabe and Evie Gallagher continued to defend well.

A run of 2-2 put Beragh in control but Drumragh answered that with two excellent points from Breanna Breslin who had shown good determination to get herself into a scoring position on both occasions.

Strong runs from midfielders Aoibhinn Gallagher and Julieanne Quinn set Sorcha McKenna up for a goal chance which she took. Sorcha then converted a free following good play from Julieanne and Erin Coyle and the teams were level again.

But those late goals though was enough for Beragh to claim the win despite a good point from Sorcha McKenna.

Another good performance from Drumragh and a bit unlucky to have taken something from the game.
