Drumragh U14 boys and management ahead of the final against Loughmacrory

Drumragh………………..4-7
Loughmacrory……….3-12

Drumragh U14 boys and Loughmacrory produced a brilliant game of football in the Grade 2 league final at Killyclogher last Sunday. But unfortunately it was Loughmacrory who came on top by two points following an exciting and high quality sixty-plus minutes of football.

It was end-to-end early on as both sides sought the opening score. Turlough Collins, Lorcan McGrath and Conor Barrett were at the forefront of Drumragh’s efforts while Carraig McKenna, Conor Gormley and Rory Dolan came up with important interceptions when Loughmacrory pressed forward.

It was Drumragh who opened the scoring through Conor Barrett who cut in along the endline before punching the ball over the bar.

Loughmacrory hit a purple patch after that scoring 2-2 without response to lead by seven points. Sean O’Doherty also made a brilliant save to stop Loughmacrory from going even further ahead.

But back came Drumragh and they were level not long after. A brilliant pass inside from Ryan Montgomery found its way to Niall Maguire and he finished well past the goalkeeper.

Aidan McCarney followed that up with a good point from play and then Oisin Kerlin brought the teams level with an excellent goal. A good team move involving Fionn Collins, Frankie Monk and Niall Maguire saw a chance open up for Oisin and he made no mistake placing the ball in the bottom corner of the net.

It was Loughmacrory though who held a seven-point lead at half-time as they finished the half strongly.

Ronan Bresnahan played at full-back for Drumragh U14 boys against Loughmacrory

Drumragh needed a good start to the second half and they got one.

Ryan Montgomery hit a fantastic point from play and Fionn Collins added another as Drumragh ate into Loughmacrory’s lead. They defended well too with Carraig McKenna and Ronan Bresnahan coming up with some big plays in the centre of the Drumragh defence.

Conor Barrett then got in for a goal in a move that started with a turnover from Conor Gormley in the Drumragh defence and a good pass from Oisin Kerlin.

Loughmacrory answered that goal with a couple of good point from play but a foul on Fionn Collins allowed Niall Maguire to tap over a free.

Sean O’Doherty made another brilliant save in the Drumragh goal and Dylan Lowry showed great bravery to win the rebound and clear the ball for Drumragh.

Four points on the spin put Loughmacory in a commanding position but again Drumragh refused to give in.

Ryan Montgomery sent over a free after Conor Barrett was fouled and Drumragh were then awarded a penalty. Oisin Kerlin made a storming run through the centre of the Loughmacrory defence, he passed off to Niall  Maguire who was fouled. Up stepped Oisin and he blasted the ball to the back of the net.

Turlough Collins, Conor McLaughlin and Aidan McCarney helped set up Fionn Collins for another score leaving just a point in it. However, Loughmacrory were able to get the ball up to the other end of the pitch and kick it over the bar and that was the final score of the game.

A disappointing end to the year for Drumragh but they have had a brilliant season and can be proud of what they achieved.
