Drumragh U14 girls after their win over Strabane at Clanabogan on Saturday

Drumragh U14 girls made it two wins from two games following a convincing win over Strabane at Clanabogan on Saturday.

It was a very good performance from Drumragh who had strong contributions from both the starting team and the subs who came on.

Rihanna Mullin put Drumragh in front after a few minutes with a point in a move that was started by a good turnover by Fianna McNamee in the defence. It was a lead that they would never let go of.

Drumragh were on the front foot early on and were creating plenty of chances thanks to good work from Dana Coyle, Tammy Donnell, Eabha Coyle and Shauna Murray.

The Drumragh defence started well too with the full-back line of Cara Kerlin, Fionnuala Clarke and Cora Walsh coming up with a number of important blocks and interceptions.

A terrific catch from a kickout by Grace McCusker created a goal opportunity for Fionnuala Barrett and she made no mistake to extend Drumragh’s lead. Rihanna Mullin soon added another goal after a fantastic cross-field pass from Fionnuala put her one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Strabane hit the next three scores and threatened with a few goal chances only to be denied by determined defending by Lily O’Kane and Cara Kerlin. Goalkeeper Olivia Kelly also made a brilliant save as Strabane looked to get back into the game.

Drumragh, though, got in for their third goal not long after, a great finish from centre-back Genevieve Norris after a team move involving Dana Coyle, Mia Feeney and Coblaith Murphy.

The Drumragh and Strabane teams shake hands after the game

The start of the second half was end-to-end with both Olivia Kelly and the Strabane goalkeeper making fine saves. Coblaith Murphy opened the scoring after half-time with a good point before Genevieve Norris added another following strong play from Dana Coyle and Sadhbh Duncan. Sadhbh then set Rihanna Mullin up for a point as Drumragh began to take control of the game.

A goal from Genevieve Norris and further scores from Genevieve (2), Rihanna Mullin and Sadhbh Duncan gave Drumragh a commanding lead. There was no let up in the defensive effort though with Cora Walsh, Lily O’Kane and Fionnuala Clarke stopping Strabane from getting on the scoreboard.

Genevieve Norris completed her hat-trick midway through the second half and soon added another goal. Rihanna Mullin also found the back of the net. Grace McCusker got a couple of points and Chloe McGale set up Genevieve for another before the end as Drumragh secured an impressive victory.
