Drumragh U14 girls produced a brilliant performance to beat neighbours Dromore in the league last Tuesday evening.
Drumragh held a four-point lead at half-time after a closely fought game in the first half.
Rihanna Mullin got the game’s opening score with a lovely point following good team play from Dana Coyle and Fionnuala Barrett. The move began with a turnover in the defence by Fionnuala Clarke.
Dromore went level with a nice point and quickly went ahead with a point and they then scored a goal.
But Drumragh were soon level. Good battling from the forward line created a goal opportunity for Rihanna Mullin and she took it, blasting the ball past the goalkeeper. Soon after, Sadhbh Duncan did really well to catch a long ball in, she was then fouled and Rihanna tapped over the free to make it a tie game.
Mia Feeney won the ball back around midfield, and it found its way to Genevieve Norris who finished brilliantly into the top corner of the net to put Drumragh back in front.
Good play from Coblaith Murphy and Dana Coyle led to a foul on Dana, and Rihanna Mullin converted the free that followed as Drumragh continued to perform well.
The teams swapped points, with Rihanna Mullin on target for Drumragh after Fionnuala Barrett and Olivia Kelly set her up, but a goal – despite a terrific initial save from Drumragh goalkeeper Lily O’Kane – and a point in quick succession had the teams level once again.
The Drumragh response was excellent though as Dana Coyle scored a superb goal after impressive play from Mia Feeney. Genevieve Norris soon stretched out the lead with a point after great link-up play between Cara Kerlin, Nora McCluskey and Tammy Donnell.
Drumragh made a good start to the second half with Rihanna Mullin pointing and she quickly added a goal from play. She converted a free too after a foul on Fionnuala Barrett as Drumragh took control of the game.
Sadhbh Duncan got in for a goal although Dromore replied with one of their own.
Dana Coyle set up Genevieve Norris for a nice score and Grace McCusker got one too after good play from Cara McManus, Sadhbh Duncan and Rihanna Mullin.
The defensive effort was there for Drumragh as well with Cora Walsh, Fianna McGuigan and Nora McCluskey getting in a number of blocks and tackles as Drumragh came through for an impressive victory.
