Drumragh…….….1-10
Drumquin…………1-6
Drumragh seniors got off to a winning start in the All-County League with a four-point win over Drumquin at Clanabogan Park on Friday evening.
Drumragh led by a point at half-time after a close first half. Shane Cleary kicked a couple of good frees as Drumragh went into an early 0-2 to 0-1 lead. Tommy Murphy also caught and converted a mark before Tommy Mullin put over a placed ball after he himself was fouled.
Drumquin answered back with a couple of scores leaving it a one-point game again and the teams traded frees – Shane Cleary on target for Drumragh – before the half-time whistle.
The second half got off to a great start for Drumragh with the referee awarding them a penalty following a foul on Tommy Mullin by the Drumquin goalkeeper. Tommy stepped up himself and confidently finished past the stand-in keeper.
Shane Cleary then stretched out the lead with a free after Sean McGale was fouled. Drumquin, however, got back into the game with a goal.
The Drumragh response was good though. Tommy Mullin got a great point from play after he caught a long ball in from Benny Drumm while Ronan Maguire also added a couple of scores within a minute.
Shane Cleary set up Benny Drumm for an excellent point as Drumragh built up a lead heading towards the game’s final stages.
The defence held firm and a good start to the league was secured.
