Drumragh reserves make good start

James Broderick looks to make a pass during the reserve game on Friday

Drumragh………3-9
Drumquin………0-9

Drumragh reserves beat Drumquin in their opening league game at Clanabogan on Friday evening.

Drumragh got off to a perfect start. James Broderick won the ball from the throw-in, drove through the Drumquin defence, laid the ball off to Paddy Roche who finished well past the goalkeeper. Good play from Jude Campbell then allowed Paddy to kick a nice point to extend the lead.

Drumquin got their opening score of the game, a point from play, and then forced Drumragh goalkeeper Charlie Colton into a save.

But Drumragh really took control of the game with a good stretch of play midway through the first half. Ciaran Donaghey pointed, Andy Colgan kicked a superb score from distance while Paddy Roche did really well to get his second goal having caught a long ball in.

A foul on Ryan McGuigan allowed Ciaran Donaghey to convert a free, and that gave Drumragh a six-point lead at the break.

Similar to the first half, Drumragh made a quick start to the second 30 minutes with Mark Sharkey setting James Broderick up for a good goal. Andy Colgan also scored a point while Drumquin answered with three points on the bounce.

Martin Taggart took a mark from Paul Maguire’s pass in and put the ball over the bar before adding two quality points from play.

Paddy Roche also got on the scoresheet again and with the defence playing well, Drumragh got their season off to a winning start.

Scorers: Paddy Roche 2-2, James Broderick 1-0, Martin Taggart 0-3, Ciaran Donaghey 0-2, Andy Colgan 0-2

Team: Charlie Colton, Oran Donaghy, John McCaul, Joe Mulrine, Ciaran Donaghey, Ronan McGale, Shane Colton, Gareth Starrs, Sean McGoldrick, Andy Colgan, James Broderick, Jude Campbell, Paddy Roche, Ryan McGuigan, Mark Sharkey
