Drumragh U19 boys fell to their second defeat of the season to Tattyreagh on Sunday afternoon with a dominant second half sealing victory for the away side.

Daniel O’Neill opened the scoring for Drumragh with two points – one from play and one from a free. Whilst Tattyreagh responded minutes later with two scores of their own to level the game, Drumragh were entering a purple patch and would make their possession count on the scoreboard.

The home side defence worked hard to overturn several Tattyreagh attacks in the early minutes of the game and in the process set up some dangerous counter attacks. During an early counter, Kian Murphy got on the end of a pass from Dylan McNamee – who in turn was set up by Ben Monk – to hit his first goal of the afternoon.

This was quickly followed up with points from Stephen Coyle and Ben Monk before Kian Murphy finished his second goal scoring opportunity to give Drumragh a lead at the break.

That goal opportunity, along with several other scores, was setup by the industrious midfield and half-forward line which featured, among others, Alex McGlinchey, Niall McCarney, Conor Kelly and Cormac McCann.

Great credit must be given to the Drumragh defence – led by Adam Brophy, Ryan O’Neill and Mark Armstrong – alongside goalkeeper Paul Devine for their tenacious performance throughout the opening half.

The second half began as it left off for Drumragh – with a sizeable period of possession. Cormac McCann slotted home his goal in the opening minutes after a neat lay-off by Kian Murphy.

Tattyreagh were starting to display signs of their increased intensity and work rate, however, and this showed on the scoreboard as the away side registered three unanswered points. Drumragh did eventually register another score – their last of the game – when Daniel O’Neill reacted to a free kick hitting the post and finished to the back of the Tattyreagh net.

The away side went on to dominate possession and scoring for the final 20 minutes of the game. Despite a gutsy and resolute performance from Drumragh, Tattyreagh scored 3-5 unanswered with their final goal – a penalty kick conceded when trying to clear the ball – topping off a fine comeback for the opposition.

Whilst no doubt disappointed with the result, the Drumragh side can certainly hold their heads high that they exhausted themselves and pushed right until the final whistle. They will no doubt be looking forward to the upcoming return fixture.

Scorers: Kian Murphy 2-1, Daniel O’Neill 1-2, Cormac McCann 1-0, Ben Monk 0-1, Stephen Coyle 0-1,

Team: Paul Devine, Adam Brophy, Ryan O’Neill, Mark Armstrong, Dylan McNamee, Ben Monk, Alex McGlinchey, Conor Kelly, Niall McCarney, Stephen Coyle, Cormac McCann, Kian Murphy, Daniel O’Neill
