Emma McCloskey and Emma Cox in action against Urney

Drumragh minor ladies picked up their second win of the season away to Urney last Tuesday.

It was a game played in horrible conditions, but Drumragh made light of this to produce an excellent performance to take all the points.

Julie Ann Quinn got Drumragh off to a good start with an early point. Having received possession around midfield, she drove through the Urney defence before splitting the posts. Her midfield partner Aoibhinn Gallagher followed that up with another score from play.

The game moved from end to end in the early stages and strong defending in the full-back line from Cassie McCabe and Mia Gallagher stopped a few early Urney attacks.

The home side did though take the lead though with a goal and threatened another only to be denied by Aine MacRory in the Drumragh goal.

The Drumragh response was positive, however. Saoirse Mullin brought the teams level after good play from Sorcha McKenna and Caoimhe McCarron before an impressive team move involving Evie Gallagher, Julie Ann Quinn and Josie Hughes allowed Sorcha to put Drumragh back in front.

Urney answered back with a point but Julie Ann Quinn restored Drumragh’s lead with another excellent point from play. The move started in the full-back line with a turnover from Mia Gallagher, the ball went through the hands of Iona Millls and Sorcha McKenna before Julie Ann found the target.

Great pressure in the forwards from Kayla Molloy and Aoibhinn Gallagher created an opportunity for Saoirse Mullin to score and she made no mistake with a nice effort. Saoirse quickly added another point and Sorcha McKenna extended the lead even further with a fantastic individual score.

Urney were creating chances themselves. An excellent tackle and block from Iona Mills in quick succession stopped what looked like a certain goal while Julie Ann Quinn read the game so well to cut out a few balls into the Urney full-forward line.

A patient Drumragh attack involving Eimear Mullin and Kayla Molloy ended with Saoirse Mullin finding the back of the net to really put Drumragh in control at half-time.

Julie Ann Quinn won the ball from the throw-in at the start of the second half, drove through the Urney defence, laid the ball off to Saoirse Mullin who puts the ball over bar to stretch the lead.

Urney went up to the field and kicked a couple of points to bring the gap back to six points. Cassie McCabe, Genevieve Norris and Emma McCloskey defended well too as Urney came a bit more into the game.

A great pass from Sorcha McKenna found Mia Feeney in a bit of space and she set up Saoirse Mullin for a point. Mia then set Emma McCloskey up for a goal after Julie Ann Quinn won the ball back for Drumragh in a dangerous position.

Drumragh were dominant at this stage and Kayla Molloy played a good pass into Aoibhinn Gallagher who then found of the back of the net. That was soon followed by another goal, Saoirse Mullin the scorer this time.

An excellent exchange of passes between Emma McCloskey and Emma Cox ended with Emma Cox finishing well past the Urney goalkeeper, wrapping up an impressive victory for Drumragh.
