Clodagh Loughran in possession against Edendork

Edendork…………8-7
Drumragh………..0-9

Drumragh senior ladies travelled to Edendork for their opening league game last Saturday and it was the home side who came away with all three points.

Edendork opened the scoring with a point and they almost immediately got in for a goal only to be denied, first, by a great save from Eva McCaul, and then a brave block from Claire McLaughlin.

A good ball in from Sorcha McKenna was won in the full-forward line by Julie Ann Quinn, who was then fouled. That gave Sorcha the chance to bring the teams level with a placed ball and she did so.

A goal and a point gave Edendork a four-point lead and they were putting the Drurmagh defence under pressure. Strong play from Edel Meenagh and Blanaid McGarvey stopped a number of attacks as the home side made a confident start.

But back came Drumragh with Saoirse Mullin kicking a nice point and she then combined with Grace O’Neill and Shannon Starrs to set up Sorcha McKenna for another good score.

Edendork, however, established a commanding lead with a short scoring burst.

They got off to a good start in the second half too quickly adding a goal and a point.

But Drumragh then really began to come into the game. Julie Ann Quinn and Aoibhinn Gallagher at midfield were getting on more ball, driving forward which helped create more chances. Eva McCaul converted a free following a foul on Rachel Cleary, Sorcha McKenna kicked a superb individual point while Clodagh Loughran forced the Edendork goalkeeper into a fantastic save.

Ella Smyth also made a wonderful save at the other end of the pitch and Coblaith McKenna, Edel Meenagh and Iona Mills were all playing well in the Drumragh defence.

A good point from Grace O’Neill was followed up by a pair of Eva McCaul frees. A quick team move involving Blanaid McGarvey, Caoimhe McCarron and Rachel Cleary found Clodagh Loughran in a bit of space and she was able to put the ball over the bar.

Edendork finished the game strongly though, adding a couple of goals in injury time.
