Drumragh minor ladies fought back hard to finish all square with their Castlederg counterparts on Tuesday. The teams are now joint at the top of the league table with seven points a-piece with all games played.
The pressure was on the Drumragh defence within the first minute with goalkeeper Aine MacRory making a great save. The girls got their first score from a well-placed kickout from Aine, fielded by Iona Mills who worked her way up the pitch with Josie Hughes. The ball found its way to Saoirse Mullin who got the first point for Drumragh.
A bit of momentum from the travelling side was well broken down with some great defensive moves by Josie Hughes, Cassie McCabe and Mia Gallagher all getting the pressure on. At the other end of the pitch, the hard working Eimear Mullin won a free. Some great linking play saw another point added through a ball won well by Caoimhe McCarron on the edge of the D. This was laid off to Kayla Molloy who passed to Sorcha McKenna to finish the move with a point.
More great pressure from the defence through Genevieve Norris, Alisha Brophy and Evie Gallagher created great opportunity to get the ball worked up the pitch through the hard working midfielders, Julieanne Quinn and Aoibhinn Gallagher. The girls worked well and created lots of opportunity up front under a strict Derg defence. Despite finishing the first half 2-6 to 0-6 behind their counterparts, the girls looked in control and were prepared to fight back in the second half.
The home side came out in the second half with a point to prove. Sorcha McKenna found the back of the net and halved the deficit in the opening minutes of the half. Breanna Breslin also made important movements following her introduction and won a kickout in midfield. This was worked through Sorcha McKenna, Josie Hughes and Julieanne Quinn and found its way to Saoirse Mullin. A very tight Derg defence saw the ball run loose but the attack was well broken down by Julie and Aoibhinn Gallagher before it crossed the halfway line.
Drumragh won a sideline ball which was well taken by Julieanne Quinn and found Josie Hughes who placed a great long ball in to Caoimhe McCarron. The attempt from Caoimhe was cleared by the Derg keeper but the danger hadn’t been cleared. Emma Cox won a free and was taken by Sorcha McKenna who found the back of the net again. Castlederg still managed to keep the scoreboard ticking on their end despite superb defensive pressure from the home side.
Just after the water break a ball won by Mia Gallagher was worked up the pitch through Sorcha McKenna and Saoirse Mullin who fired over a point to equalise the game.
Defence held tight with another great save by Aine MacRory who then won a free out. This was moved up the pitch in a solid team effort and although under pressure, Caoimhe McCarron and Emma McCloskey fought hard near the sideline to win the ball back again. This was worked in to Saoirse Mullin who found Caoimhe back out on the 21m line and she finished with a great point.
Saoirse Mullin then tagged on another goal for the home side. Another point from Caoimhe McCarron saw the sides finish level in what was a great battling game.
