Drumragh……….3-11
Cappagh………..2-14
A late free for Cappagh denied Drumragh senior ladies victory in their league game at Clanabogan Park on Saturday.
Despite being played in horrible conditions, the two sides provided an excellent game.
Cappagh raced into a two-point lead early on with a couple of nice scores from play. The Drumragh defence was under pressure but Clodagh Loughran and Joanne Barrett did well a number of times to stop Cappagh from extending their lead.
Drumragh got on the board thanks to Sorcha McKenna after Kathryn Donaghey and Eva McCaul had combined to create the chance for her.
Cappagh responded with a point and they then forced Drumragh goalkeeper Oonagh McMackin into a good save.
Neamh Woods found Kathryn Donaghey in a bit of space which allowed her to point and Grace O’Neill brought the teams level with a good point.
However, Cappagh went up the field from the kickout and found the back of the net and soon added a couple of points.
Sorcha McKenna answered back for Drumragh and Eva McCaul converted a free after she had been fouled. That move started way back in the defence with an excellent Cobalith McKenna turnover. The ball then went through the hands of Claire McGread, Julieanne Quinn and Aoibhinn Gallagher before ending up with Eva.
Neamh Woods then kicked two brilliant long-range frees to bring it back to a one-point game.
The teams swapped points – Eva McCaul the Drumragh scorer – but a further point and their second goal gave Cappagh a five-point lead at the break. Both teams nearly scored a goal in first-half injury time. The away goalkeeper made a great save from Eva while Josephine Quinn did really well on the goal line to prevent Cappagh’s third three-pointer.
Drumragh got off to a super start to the second half. A brilliant pass inside from Sorcha McKenna made its way to Eva McCaul and she made no mistake firing past the goalkeeper.
Cappagh replied with a point but Drumragh came back with another point from Eva McCaul and Neamh Woods then gave Drumragh the lead for the first time with a great goal.
Drumragh were very much on the front foot at the start of the half but had to remain focussed at the back. The full-back line of Shannon Starrs, Clodagh Loughran and Edel Meenagh dealing well with Cappagh attacks.
A goal from Sorcha McKenna stretched out Drumragh’s lead and a foul on Grace O’Neill gave Eva McCaul to put the ball over the bar again and she did just that.
The away side though came back strong into the game and five points on the bounce brought it back to a tie game once again.
The game was end-to-end at this stage. Drumragh were unlucky not to go ahead after good play from Caoimhe McCarron, Grace O’Neill and Ella Smyth while Joanne Barrett, Blanaid McGarvey and Julieanne Quinn did well to stop Cappagh from doing so.
It was Drumragh who did go ahead, thanks to a wonderful score from Neamh Woods after good play from Cobalith McKenna and Rachel Cleary, but that late free from Cappagh meant the teams were level when the final whistle was blown.
