Drumragh U15 girls celebrate their Feile success after last night’s game in Drumquin

Drumragh U15 girls are Tyrone Feile champions after a fantastic victory over Tattyreagh in a brilliant final in Drumquin on Thursday evening.

It was an excellent performance from Drumragh, in which every player and sub played their part.

Both sides had opportunities in the opening couple of minutes but the two defences held out with Cora Walsh, Alanna McMenamin and Genevieve Norris to the fore in the Drumragh defensive effort.

It was Drumragh who did open the scoring thanks to a good point from play by Rihanna Mullin after smart link-up play from Fionnuala Barrett and Cara Kerlin. Tattyreagh quickly equalised and then went ahead with a well-worked goal.

But the Drumragh response was good. Excellent pressure from Cara McManus and Jemma Barrett turned the ball over in the Tattyreagh full-back line, and from there, the ball found its way to Rihanna Mullin who finished well past the goalkeeper for a goal.

A foul on Rihanna Barrett allowed Mia Feeney to put Drumragh back in front from a placed ball before Dana Coyle kicked a great score after midfielders Mia Feeney and Cara Kerlin had combined to create the chance.

Tattyreagh replied with a point, and they continued to enjoy a spell of possession. However, the Drumragh defence remained strong with Lily O’Kane, Genevieve Norris and Fionnuala Clarke getting in a number of important blocks and interceptions in the full-back line.

Drumragh withstood the pressure and were soon to have their second goal. Cora Walsh did really well to win a kickout, the ball was moved forward by Mia Feeney and Grace McCusker, and reached Rihanna Barrett, whose rasping shot crashed off the crossbar. But her sister Jemma reacted quickest to the rebound and found the back of the net.

The teams swapped points, with Dana Coyle on target for Drumragh at the end of a team move that started with a brilliant kickout from Drumragh goalkeeper Chloe McGale to Cara Kerlin, allowing Drumragh to break quickly.

Tattyreagh, though, were to have the final say of the half scoring their second goal, leaving Drumragh a point to the good at half-time.

The second half got off to a fast start. Tattyreagh grabbed the lead with a goal but, again, Drumragh were able to respond in style. Alanna McMenamin, Rihanna Barrett and Grace McCusker were all involved in a team move that Dana Coyle finished with a goal.

The lead was stretched out with another goal, this time from Sadhbh Duncan, who gave the goalkeeper no chance with a nice finish.

Drumragh introduced their substitutes and they all lent a hand in the team effort in the closing stages as Tattyreagh applied the pressure. They kicked a couple of great points leaving it a one-score game. They had other chances too but excellent defending from Lily O’Kane, Cora Walsh and Genevieve Norris denied them.

With time almost up, Tattyreagh created one last opportunity and were through on goal. However, Drumragh goalkeeper Chloe McGale stood tall and produced a stunning save to protect Drumragh’s lead. The resulting 45 was cleared and the referee blew the full-time whistle. Drumragh had won, and are the new Feile champions.
