BRACKAVILLE……….0-13
DRUMRAGH…………..1-13
Drumragh senior men picked up their first win of the season with a hard-earned but deserved victory away to Brackaville on Thursday.
Tommy Mullin’s goal midway through the second half was ultimately the difference between the sides.
There wasn’t much in it during the opening quarter. Aaron Montgomery converted an early free to put Drumragh ahead, only for Brackaville to kick one of their own.
Drumragh goalkeeper James Colgan was quick off his line to prevent a Brackaville goal, and from the counter-attack Drumragh moved the ball at speed through Micheal Mullin and Paddy Colgan to Eoin Montgomery who pointed from distance.
Brackaville equalised again before Andy Colgan and Alex McGlinchey combined to set up for Malachy McManus for a good score. The lead was increased with a free from Eoin Montgomery and the same player was soon on target again, this time a brilliant effort from play.
The home side responded with a point but an excellent pass inside from Tommy Mullin led to a Malachy McManus score. Drumragh kept the pressure on with Aaron Montgomery and Malachy McManus adding to the tally.
Brackaville finished the half well with two quickfire points leaving it a three-point game at half-time.
The sides exchanged points at the start of the second half, Daniel O’Neill, a good effort off his left foot, and Eoin Montgomery with the Drumragh scores.
And then came the key score of the game. Daniel O’Neill showed good strength to win the ball in the corner, he moved the ball onto Ronan Maguire, who in turn passed it across goal to Tommy Mullin who made no mistake to find the back of the net.
Gareth Haughey followed that up with a point as Drumragh established a seven-point lead. Brackaville fought back well, however, hitting four points on the bounce to leave it a one-score game again.
Aaron Montgomery stopped that run with a free when Daniel O’Neill was fouled having done well to win a high ball in. A foul on Kian Murphy allowed Aaron to kick another free with time almost up. Brackaville replied to both those frees with a point of their own but they couldn’t get the goal they needed to take something from the game. Good defending from Barry Kirwan, Eoin McGread and Eamonn Kerrigan protecting Drumragh’s lead until the final whistle was blown, and the first win of the year secured.
