On a terribly wet evening in Augher, both Drumragh minor girls and St Macartan’s served up an exciting and competitive game of football for those spectators who braved the elements.
Drumragh were the stronger team in the first half. They were resolute in defence, Aine MacRory pulling off some good saves in goals, and the full-back line of Lily O’Kane, Fionnuala Clarke and Caitlin McCarron thwarting the Mac’s in attack.
The Drumragh half-back line of Iona Mills, Grace McCusker and Cara Kerlin both defended and attacked well in equal measure.
The athletic midfield of Mia Feeney and Mairead Corrigan worked well in tandem, covering every blade of grass. The half-forward line of Caoimhe McCarron, Rihanna Barrett and Evie Gallagher linked well between defence and attack, all working hard.
The full-forward line of Amylee Burt, Rihanna Mullin and Jemma Barrett proved to be dangerous throughout.
The Drumragh first-half goals came from Rihanna Mullin and Caoimhe McCarron with Jemma Barrett also driving the ball to the roof of the net.
In the second half, the Mac’s upped their game on their home turf, taking the game to Drumragh. While the defence held out well, they gradually got on top over the course of the half.
Drumragh showed their usual true spirit in battling to the end, however, a goal a couple of minutes from time for St Macartan’s proved to be the winner.
The Drumragh substitutes on the evening comprised of Fianna McGuigan, Oonagh Pancott, Cassie McCabe, Cora Walsh, Neamh Given, and Genevieve Norris.
