Drumragh U16 boys beat Naomh Eoghan in the league on Saturday

Drumragh U16 boys continued their impressive form with a win over Naomh Eoghan at Clanabogan on Saturday morning.

Drumragh got off to a super start and seized the lead through a brilliant individual goal from Turlough Collins, who fired past the Naomh Eoghan goalkeeper after a strong run. Aidan McCarney added a point before Turlough scored his second goal, one that was very similar to his first.

Dylan Lowry volleyed the ball over the bar after Conor Fyffe’s pass, while Conor then set up Turlough Collins to complete his hat-trick as Drumragh kept up their confident opening to the game.

Naomh Eoghan had a number of dangerous attacks, but Shea Mullin, Matthew Barrett and Ryan Baxter all defended excellently.

Conor Fyffe struck a brilliant point with Naomh Eoghan answering back with a couple of frees.

Conor Gormley set up Ryan Baxter for a point before Dylan Lowry’s cross-field pass found Aidan McCarney who blasted to the back of the net with his right foot, off the post.

Drumragh remained on the front foot as half-time approached. James Fyffe and Aidan McCarney combined to allow Frankie Monk to send the ball over the bar. Frankie then turned provider, winning the ball back, before laying off to Dylan Lowry who pointed.

Naomh Eoghan converted a free but Drumragh had the last say in the half with a goal. Matthew Barrett won the ball back in the corner-back position, he ran forward with the ball, delivered it into Dylan Lowry who finished well past the goalkeeper.

A brilliant catch in the full-forward line from Aidan McCarney led to Conor Gormley opening the scoring in the second half with a point. Aidan then converted a free after Dara Cox had been fouled. Dara himself quickly got on the scoresheet with a nice left-footed effort.

James Fyffe added two points in quick succession while Conor Fyffe, Oran Barrett and Connor McLaughlin were all involved in a move that led to a Ryan Baxter goal. Turlough Collins soon afterwards got in for his fourth goal.

Drumragh introduced a number of subs and each one had a positive impact on the game. Two of them – Michael Forde and Joseph Taggart – helped themselves to a goal. Michael fired brilliantly into the top corner after Ronan Bresnahan’s pass, while Joseph reacted quickest to palm the ball to the back of the net after Conor Gormley’s initial shot had been saved.

Joseph Taggart added the final point of the game, while Naomh Eoghan responded with a score. They almost got in for a goal, but Drumragh goalkeeper Matthew O’Doherty produced a fantastic save, with the referee blowing the final whistle shortly after.
