Drumragh minor girls were beaten by Castlederg following a close and competitive league game on Tuesday evening.
The sides went score-for-score in the early stages with Caoimhe McCarron, Mia Feeney and Rihanna Mullin on target for Drumragh with super points.
However, two goals in quick succession – including a penalty – gave the home side the lead. The full-back line of Lily O’Kane, Genevieve Norris and Cara Kerlin thwarted a number of dangerous Castlederg attacks. But Drumragh finished the half strongly. Rihanna Mullin kicked a good score after Mairead Corrigan and Jemma Barrett had combined to set her up, Rihanna Barrett added another, while Caoimhe McCarron had the final say of the half with her second point of the game after good play from Rihanna Mullin, Amylee Burt and Evie Gallagher.
Drumragh got off to a confident start in the second half with the half-back line of Caitlin McCarron, Iona Mills and Grace McCusker getting forward to good effect. They were also thankful to Drumragh goalkeeper Aine MacRory who made a great save.
Rihanna Mullin and Caoimhe McCarron both put the ball over the bar as Drumragh looked to go in front.
But a third goal for Castlederg, along with a number of points, put them back in control. Drumragh, however, refused to give in and, with the help of subs Cora Walsh, Fionnuala Clarke, Fianna McGuigan, Cassie McCabe and Oonagh Pancott, battled until the final whistle. Caoimhe McCarron and Rihanna Mullin closed the gap with nice points, but despite a good performance from Drumragh, goals in the end made the difference.
