In blistering hot conditions, Drumragh minor girls performed with great character losing narrowly to Aghyaran last Sunday morning by two points, having trailed by seven at half-time.
The stand-in goalkeeper for Drumragh Genevieve Norris performed admirably, both as a shot-stopper and play creator. The full-back line of Lily O’Kane, Fionnuala Clarke and Oonagh Pancott, in particular in the second half, restricted Aghyaran to minimal chances.
The half-back line of Evie Gallagher, Grace McCusker and young Caitlin McCarron worked their socks off, driving forward at every opportunity.
Midfield pairing of Mairead Corrigan and Dana Coyle covered every blade of grass until Mairead had to go off through injury.
The forward line of Amylee Burt, Rihanna Mullin, Caoimhe McCarron, and the Barrett twins, Jemma and Rhianna, caused trouble for the Aghyaran rearguard and kicked some great scores throughout the game.
In particular in the second half, Drumragh pressed and pressed and Aghyaran, certainly, were relieved to get over the line by a narrow margin.
Drumragh coaches, most certainly, can be proud of the character and resilience shown by each and every player on different occasions.
