Drumragh U14 girls played their final game of the season away to Beragh last Thursday and came away with a fantastic victory.
Fionnuala Barrett opened the scoring with a wonderful point after a strong run from half-back. Caitlin McCarron then won the kickout that followed and doubled Drumragh’s lead with an assured finish.
The game was end-to-end during the first half and Drumragh were unlucky not to be further ahead after good play from Shauna Murray, Jennifer Barrett and Lily Keys.
At the other end of the field, Keira McGuigan, Eva McGale and Roise McDevitt made confident starts to the game, making it difficult for the Beragh forward line.
The home side did, however, go in front with three scores on the bounce, but Roisin Gormley brought the teams level again with an excellent individual point.
Niamh Colton was having a great game at full-back and made two brilliant, brave goal-line clearances when Beragh looked certain to score goals. Drumragh goalkeeper Chloe McGale also made a super save ensuring there was nothing between the sides at half-time.
Drumragh came out in the second half in a determined mood and went about building up a lead. Caitlin McCarron got them up-and-running with a point after good play from Dearbhaille McLaughlin, Eabha Coyle and Roise McDevitt, while Roisin Gormley added a free after Anna Clarke had been fouled.
Drumragh then got in for a goal. Roisin Gormley’s free dropped short around the square, and Jennifer Barrett reacted quickest to gather the ball and finish smartly past the goalkeeper.
They were playing really well at this point with subs Lottie Gallagher, Hollie Sloan, Chloe McSwiggan, Mia McGale and Beth Campbell all coming on and playing their part.
Roisin Gormley tagged on a couple of points, one from a free after Jennifer Barrett had been fouled, and another from a counter-attack started in the defence by Roise McDevitt, Aoibhinn Dolan and Keira McGuigan.
Beragh still threatened and converted a penalty as the game approached its final 10 minutes. Niamh Colton, Anna Clarke and Eva McGale continued to defend well as the home side pressed.
Eabha Coyle kicked a brilliant point for Drumragh and, despite conceding a second goal in injury time, they held on for a well-deserved win after a great perofrmance.
