Drumragh minor girls beat Galbally on Thursday

Drumragh minor girls beat Galbally at Clanabogan Park on Thursday evening.

Drumragh led throughout in what was another excellent performance from the team.

A smart pass from Caoimhe McCarron set up Rhianna Barrett for a goal in the opening minutes. Galbally soon equalised with a goal of their own though and were applying a lot of pressure early on. But the Drumragh defence stood up with Iona Mills, Fionnuala Clarke and Oonagh Pancott playing key roles.

Caoimhe McCarron put Drumragh ahead again with a nice score after she had won a kickout. Again, Galbally were soon level, but quick hands from Jemma Barrett created a goal chance for Caoimhe, who made no mistake.

A fantastic team move started by a good kickout from Drumragh goalkeeper Aine MacRory, and involving Evie Gallagher, Jemma Barrett and Amylee Burt, ended with a Rhianna Barrett point as Drumragh extended their lead.

Galbally kicked two scores in-a-row, but Dana Coyle responded for Drumragh. Having won the kickout, Dana drove through the Galbally defence and fired to the back of the net.

Genevieve Norris then scored a goal, only seconds after coming on as a sub, while Caoimhe McCarron converted a free.

Galbally scored a goal and would have had another only for excellent defending from Fionnuala Clarke and Lily O’Kane. And that left Drumragh with the lead at half-time.

It was the away side who made the quicker start to the second half. They scored a goal, and could have had a goal only for Caitlin McCarron to clear the danger. Caitlin then set up her sister Caoimhe for a point, to which Galbally answered back with a goal.

But Drumragh then took control of the game. A strong run from Dana Coyle allowed Rhianna Barrett to send the ball over the bar, and Rhianna quickly added another after Evie Gallagher, Grace McCusker and Oonagh Pancott had combined to create the chance.

Drumragh’s subs had a positive impact too, with Chloe McGale winning a number of kickouts and Fionnuala Barrett turning the ball over a few times in defence.

Genevieve Norris and Rhianna Barrett (2) found the back of the net before the end of the game, while Genevieve, Rhianna, Caoimhe McCarron (2) and Dana Coyle all added good points before full-time. A great performance bringing about a well-deserved win.
