Drumragh……….4-16 | Strabane……….5-7

Drumragh senior ladies beat Strabane in the league on Sunday evening after an excellent game at Clanabogan.

Drumragh played really well and it was a deserved win for them ahead of the upcoming championship. They took an early lead when Beth Donaghy converted a free after she had been fouled.

Strabane quickly equalised, but Coblaith McKenna ran onto Laura Jayne Donnelly’s kickout before setting up Beth Donaghy to put Drumragh in front again. Strabane kicked a point, but Drumragh answered back with good scores from play by Nicola Taggart and Saoirse Mullin.

The away side closed the gap to a point, but Drumragh took control of the game when Caoimhe McCarron finished well past the goalkeeper for the game’s first goal. Sorcha McKenna, Nicola Taggart and Shannon Starrs combined to allow Beth Donaghy to send the ball over the bar, while Nicola added another after Julieanne Quinn had won a kickout.

Strabane hit back with two points on the bounce, and went looking for goals in an effort to get back in the game. However, the Drumragh full-back line of Edel Meenagh, Mia Gallagher and Clare McGread kept them out with a number of interceptions and tackles. Saoirse Mullin then had the last say of the half with a point to give Drumragh a good lead at half-time.

Evie Gallagher came up from half-back to get the scoring underway after half-time. Beth Donaghy added a couple of points, while Caoimhe McCarron was also on target after good play from Joanne Barrett and Grace McCusker as Drumragh made a confident start to second half.

Strabane got on the scoreboard, but Beth Donaghy answered back for the home side from a placed ball.

Strabane scored their first goal of the game, but the Drumragh response was immediate. Mia Gallagher won the ball back for Drumragh in the full-back line, and it was moved upfield through Joanne Barrett, Shannon Starrs and Coblaith McKenna, and eventually to Nicola Taggart who fired the ball to the net.

Another goal came for Strabane, but Caoimhe McCarron kicked two quickfire points to keep Drumragh in control. Not long after Caoimhe scored a point in response to another Strabane goal. Nicola Taggart put the ball over the bar too as the game approached full-time, with the Drumragh subs coming on and having an impact.

Strabane scored two goals in injury time, but Rhianna Barrett also drilled the ball low and hard past the goalkeeper, completing an excellent win for Drumragh.
