Drumragh……….2-17 | Clann na nGael……….3-3

Drumragh senior ladies progressed to the championship semi-final after an excellent win over Clann na nGael in Gortin on Thursday evening.

It was a brilliant performance from Drumragh, made all the more impressive given the game was played in the middle of a thunderstorm.

The sides swapped scores in the opening stages of the first half. Nicola Taggart and Beth Donaghy were on target for Drumragh, after good build-up play from Julieanne Quinn, Caoimhe McCarron and Sorcha McKenna. However, a Clann na nGael goal gave them the lead on the 10-minute mark. They threatened a few times with Josephine Quinn denying them a goal with a brave block while Evie Gallagher, Joanne Barrett and Grace McCusker also stopped a number of attacks.

Clann na nGael’s lead wasn’t to last long, though, and Aine McManus put Drumragh in front with a goal. Drumragh goalkeeper Laura-Jayne Donnelly did well to claim a long ball into the square, the ball was moved upfield quickly, eventually finding Aine, who finished well past the goalkeeper. Beth Donaghy and Sorcha McKenna extended Drumragh’s lead with a super score from play each.

But back came Clann na nGael though with a quickfire 1-2 to regain the lead.

Beth Donaghy (2) and Aine McManus ensured Drumragh had a one-point lead at half-time with points after a number of good team moves.

Drumragh really upped their performance in the second half. Blanaid McGarvey got things going on the scoreboard after the break, while Aine McManus, Amy Cox and Beth Donaghy added points to stretch out the lead.

Clann na nGael scored their third goal, but that was to be their final score of the game. Drumragh defended superbly with Mia Gallagher, Joanne Barrett and Clare McGread in the full-back line all playing brilliantly.

Aine McManus responded to Clann na nGael’s goal with an excellent point after good play from Coblaith McKenna and Rihanna Mullin.

And there was no let up from Drumragh as the game approached its end, with all subs playing a role.

Amy Cox converted a free, and added a point from play, while Aine McManus and Beth Donaghy were also on target as Drumragh completed a fantastic win.
