League defeat for Drumragh U14 boys

Drumragh U14 boys lost to Na Doiri Oga in the league at Clanabogan Park on Saturday morning.

Niall Gormley gave Drumragh the perfect start with an early goal. Tom Barrett and Padraig Gormley did well to turn the ball over in the defence, James Gallagher carried it forward and his pass into Niall allowed him to score. Matt Gallagher then converted a free after a foul on Lorcan Starrs.

But back came Na Doiri Oga, and they were soon level with a goal and a point in a short period of time.

Both teams had their moments going forward, and went score for score for a while. A quick free from Matt Gallagher allowed Shea Mullin to send the ball over the bar, and Matt himself was on target from a placed ball after Niall Burt had been fouled, following good play from Conor Fyffe and Luke Hagan.

Na Doiri Oga applied the pressure and forced Drumragh goalkeeper Matthew O’Doherty into a good save.

Conor Fyffe got Drumragh’s second goal, and despite another point from Niall Gormley, Na Doiri Oga led at the break after finishing the half strongly. They could have been further ahead too only for some important interventions from Joseph Taggart, Matthew Barrett and Tiernan O’Donnell.

Na Doiri Oga opened the scoring in the second half with a goal, to which Drumragh answered back with a free from Matt Gallagher. Soon after Niall Gormley found the net again, this time after Ollie Hagan and James Gallagher had combined to create the chance.

Conor Fyffe added a brilliant point from play, but Na Doiri Oga then had a period of dominance, hitting a number of scores without reply.

But Drumragh fought to the final whistle to try and get back into the game, with the subs introduced playing their part. Eamon Barrett kicked a nice point, while a quick piece of thinking from James Gallagher found Shea Mullin in a bit of space, and Shea drove the ball to the back of the net.

Eamon Barrett won a kickout, ran through the Na Doiri Oga defence and split the posts. Sean Sloan set up Conor Fyffe for a goal and Shea Mullin added a point. The Na Doiri Oga made a few good saves as Drumragh piled the pressure on near the end, but it was the visitors who claimed the points.
