Drumragh……….4-11 | Drumquin……….0-6
Drumragh reserves won the Tyrone Junior Reserve championship on Saturday, following a victory over Drumquin in Dromore. Two goals in each half laid the foundation for what was an excellent win.
A foul on Barry Fitzgerald allowed Niall McCarney to put Drumragh ahead with a free, and it was a lead they would not lose. Ben Monk and Kevin Marron added excellent points from play, while Cormac Dolan fired the ball to the roof of the net to really give Drumragh control of the game.
Drumquin kicked two scores in quick succession, but Oran Devlin responded for Drumragh after good play from Michael Roche and Johnny Browne.
The Drumragh defence were excellent in the opening stages with Blaine Feeney, Eoin McGread and Mark Carroll in the full-back line winning the ball back numerous times.
The teams swapped points with Paddy Roche setting up Cormac Dolan to fire over an excellent point from range.
It was to get better for Drumragh just before the break with the second goal of the game. Mark Carroll did brilliantly to win the ball back in defence. The ball was then moved upfield through the hands of Barry Kirwan and James Broderick, and eventually to Niall McCarney who finished into the top corner.
Drumragh got off to a brilliant start to the second half. Johnny Browne won the ball out in front, turned his marker, and his pass across goal was palmed into the net by Niall McCarney.
Drumquin hit a couple of points, and they went in search of goals. However, the Drumragh defence were able to deal with any threat, including goalkeeper Ethan Maguire who did well to claim a few high balls into the square.
And from then on, Drumragh were on the attack for much of the rest of the game.
Kevin Marron kicked a nice point, before Niall McCarney converted three frees in-a-row. James Broderick then made sure of the result with a brilliant goal, having run through the centre of the Drumquin defence.
Conor Kelly set up Paddy Roche for a good point while Barry Kirwan was sent through for the final score of the game. A great performance and win for Drumragh, securing their fourth reserve title since 2017.
