League defeat for Drumragh U14 girls

Drumragh U14 girls lost out to Moortown in the league at Clanabogan Park on Sunday morning.

The game was end-to-end early on with the Drumragh defence, led by Hollie Sloan, Lainhan Donnelly and Beth Darcy, frustrating the visitors on a number of occasions. At the other end of the pitch, Lily Keys forced the Moortown goalkeeper into a good save after great play by Olivia Montague and Dearbhaille McLaughlin.

Moortown did open the scoring and built up their lead by the 15-minute mark. Lily Keys got Drumragh up-and-running on the scorebaord, converting a difficult free after excellent pressure from Emelia Lowry, Lottie Gallagher and Emeli Cox forced the turnover in the Moortown defence. Drumragh had other chances too, with good play from Jennifer Barrett,  Alanna Murray and Niamh Colton not reflected on the scoreboard.

Moortown opened the scoring in the second half with a goal, but Chloe McGale responded for Drumragh with two frees following fouls on Emelia Lowry and Lily Keys. The away side increased their lead, and were applying a lot of pressure in the second half. Chloe Colton,  Amy Cox, Lana Gormley and Leah Kelly came up with some good interceptions and blocks during this time for Drumragh.

Drumragh brought on their substitutes and they helped push Drumragh forward in the closing stages, and that effort was rewarded when Chloe McGale found the back of the net. Jennifer Barrett and Dearbhaille McLaughlin worked the ball upfield, and Olivia Montague sent Chloe through on goal, and she fired past the goalkeeper. The referee blew the full-time whistle from the kickout that followed.
