Drumragh U14 girls continued their league campaign last Sunday morning against Pomeroy at Clanabogan Park.

It was the visitors who made the quicker start and they jumped out to an early lead. However, Drumragh went on to have a sustained time of attacking play, pushed on by Dearbhaille McLaughlin and Jennifer Barrett at midfield, and Hollie Sloan, Lainhan Donnelly and Emeli Cox in the forward line. Chloe McGale then got Drumragh on the scoreboard with a super point from play after Hollie Sloan and Alanna Murray created the chance.

In the defence, Myah Dillon, Chloe Colton and Eireann Boyle began the game in determined fashion preventing Pomeroy from scoring on a number of occasions. Goalkeeper Lily Keys also made a wonderful save midway through the first half.

Drumragh introduced all their substitutes – Lana Gormley, Anna McGoldrick, Lily McAleer, Leah Kelly, Naomi Given, Mia McGale, Chloe McSwiggan, Beth Darcy, Lottie Gallagher, Aoife McCullagh – throughout the second half. And they didn’t have to wait long for their first score after the resumption. Emelia Lowry and Olivia Montague combined to send Chloe McGale through on goal, and Chloe fired brilliantly past the goalkeeper.

Pomeroy responded with a goal and added on a few more scores. But Drumragh kept coming, and a foul on Alanna Murray allowed Chloe McGale to tap over a free. They had other chances too, with the Pomeroy goalkeeper doing well to deny Dearbhaille McLaughlin and Chloe goals.

Drumragh were soon awarded a penalty after a foul on Olivia Montague, this coming after good play from Niamh Colton, Jennifer Barrett and Lainhan Donnelly. Up stepped Emelia Lowry, and she expertly sent the ball into the top corner of the net.

Pomeroy did increase their lead before the full-time whistle, but the Drumragh defence made them work for everything they got, with Hollie Sloan, Amy Cox, and Dearbhaille McLaughlin leading the way.
