Two from two for Drumragh U14 boys

Another excellent performance saw Drumragh U14 boys beat Kildress in the league at Clanabogan Park on Saturday morning.

Conor Murray put Drumragh ahead with a goal after a brilliant cross-field pass from Matt Gallagher found him in a bit of space. It was a lead that Drumragh would not lose. Matt extended the advantage with a free, before Kildress opened their account with a good score from play.

The Drumragh response was quick, however, with Matt Gallagher firing to the back of the net after he had exchanged passes with Cahir Keyes.

Peter McGuigan, Mark Walsh and Conor Murray defended well in the early stages of the half restricting the Kildress attack to only few chances.

Kildress did convert a free, but Drumragh went straight up the field to register their third goal of the game. Ronan Barton timed his pass to Ollie Hagan perfectly, sending him through on goal and Ollie made no mistake with a nice finish past the goalkeeper. Soon after, a good team move involving Eamonn Barrett, James Gallagher and Conor Fyffe ended with Lorcan Starrs sending the ball over the bar. Conor then split the posts from distance with the outside of his right foot after Arthur Barrett had created the chance, as Drumragh continued their confident start.

The visitors scored their first goal of the game with Matt Gallagher answering back with three points in quick succession, one a brilliant effort from play. Niall Gormley was also on target after playing a quick 1-2 with Lorcan Starrs.

Another excellent pass from Matt Gallagher allowed Cahir Keyes to score a goal, while Lorcan Starrs did likewise after good play from Conor Fyffe, Arthur Barrett and Ronan Barton. Kildress hit two scores on-the-bounce, but Lorcan Starrs and Niall Gormley – after a brilliant catch on the edge of the square from Conor Fyffe’s 45 – rounded up the first-half scoring with points.

Kildress made a determined start to the second half, scoring 1-1 to close the gap. Ollie Hagan calmed Drumragh nerves, however, with a goal after being set up by Lorcan Starrs and Ronan Barton. James Gallagher tagged on a lovely point after a strong run from midfield. The teams swapped points with Matt Gallagher responsible for Drumragh’s score.

Substitutes Che Corry, Ethan Montague, James Green, Eoin Clarke, Eoghan Boyle, Senan McManus, Fergal Pearson and Ruairi Doherty all came on during the second half and each player did their part as Drumragh pushed right to the final whistle.

Drumragh were awarded a penalty following a foul on Ollie Hagan with Conor Fyffe increasing Drumragh’s lead with a composed finish. Che Corry’s good off-the-shoulder support play was rewarded when he latched onto Ollie Hagan’s hand pass before firing the ball into the roof of the net.

Oisin Walsh and Conor Fyffe were pushing forward from defence to good effect allowing Matt Gallagher to kick a couple of frees, while Lorcan Starrs added a good score from play.

Kildress kept the pressure on late in the game and scored their third goal, and added a couple of good points. And with the last action of the game, Drumragh goalkeeper Lorcan McDevitt provided one of the highlights of the contest with an excellent save to deny Kildress another goal.
