Drumragh minor boys lost out to Clonoe in the league on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing by eight points at half-time, Drumragh mounted an excellent second-half comeback to bring it back to a one-point game in the latter stages of the contest. But a late scoring burst from the home side made sure of the win.

Clonoe applied early pressure with Oran Barrett preventing a goal with a goal-line clearance and goalkeeper Sean O’Doherty making a good save. A strong run from Lorcan McGrath led to an Aidan McCarney score, but Clonoe responding with four points in-a-row.

Strong play from Frankie Monk and James Fyffe allowed Niall Maguire to send the ball over the bar, while Ryan Montgomery converted a free after he had been fouled.

Aidan McCarney was on target a few times, as was Conor Gormley, but a couple of goals late in the half gave Clonoe that lead at the break.

Clonoe stretched out their lead at the beginning of the second half. But Drumragh went on to play some brilliant football to get themselves back in the game. Aidan McCarney, Conor Gormley, Dylan Lowry and Niall Maguire all kicked points. There was some determined defending too with Carraig McKenna, Connor McLaughlin and Rory Dolan prominent.

Drumragh needed a goal, and it came via the penalty spot. Aidan McCarney won, and he took it himself, firing past the goalkeeper. That left a point in it, but the home side finished the game well , securing both points.
