Impressive Drumragh minor girls secure win number two

Drumragh minor girls continued their winning ways with an Easter Tuesday victory away to Pomeroy.

In a game refereed by Eugene Mullan from Rock, Drumragh got off to the perfect start with goals from Emma McCloskey and Genevieve Norris.

Points were also scored in the first quarter by Rihanna Mullin, Genevieve Norris and Rhianna Barrett (free). Pomeroy then scored 1-2 without reply, and the remainder of the half saw each team match the other score-by-score. Genevieve Norris added a third goal, and further points from Caoimhe McCarron, Rihanna Mullin and Rhianna Barrett saw Drumragh go in at the interval as 3-6 t0 1-5 leaders.

During the first half, Drumragh were well served in defence with excellent kickouts by goalkeeper Katie McCann, and strong rearguard defending from Fionnuala Clarke, Cora Walsh, Lily O’Kane, Cara Kerlin, Grace McCusker and Caitlin McCarron.

Pomeroy got the second half off to a good start with two points. However, with the introduction of Mia Feeney in defence, driven on by Dana Coyle and Mairead Corrigan at midfield, Drumragh again seized control. A Rhianna Barrett free was followed by a Genevieve Norris goal, and two further Rhianna Barrett frees.

Emma McCloskey scored her second goal of the match, and more goals from Genevieve Norris and Rihanna Mullin put Drumragh firmly in the driving seat.

The forward line gelled as a unit, with Aine O’Donnell, Jemma Barrett, Cobhlaith Murphy and Nora McCloskey all providing assists for scores.

In defence, Oonagh Pancott and Fionnuala Barrett came on and continued the excellent defensive work.

Drumragh can be pleased with an all-round squad performance, which is evidence of the good work being put in on the training field.
