Drumragh minor girls made it four wins from four games against Tattyreagh at Clanabogan Park on Tuesday evening, continuing their good form to start off the season.
Dana Coyle and Caoimhe McCarron hit scores in the opening five minutes to give Drumragh the lead, with Genevieve Norris, Rihanna Mullin and Emma McCloskey all involved early on.
Tattyreagh had a number of attacks too, with Cara Kerlin denying them a goal with a terrific goal-line block. Tattyreagh did register a point but Drumragh went up the other end of the field and kicked a score through Dana Coyle. The away side converted a free, but Dana hit her third score of the game to re-establish that two-point lead. Aine O’Donnell and Caoimhe McCarron helped create the chance with good build-up play.
A goal and a point gave Tattyreagh the lead, but Drumragh’s response was quick. Aine O’Donnell’s clever pass allowed Genevieve Norris to score her first goal of the game, while Dana Coyle quickly added another three-pointer following a strong run.
Tattyreagh were on target twice with points, but Drumragh kicked on and were able to increase their lead before half-time. Genevieve Norris scored a goal, and tagged on a point after Mairead Corrigan and Emma McCloskey set her up. Aine O’Donnell then scored two quickfire goals, while a fantastic pass forward from Rihanna Mullin allowed Genevieve to complete her hat-trick before the break.
In the second half, some excellent defending from Cara Kerlin and Lily O’Kane started a move that ended with Rhianna Barrett sending the ball over the bar. Aine O’Donnell then split the posts after Caoimhe McCarron’s pass found her in space as Drumragh began the half confidently.
The Drumragh defence were in a determined mood too, making Tattyreagh work hard for everything. A highlight was a brilliant catch on the goal-line by Fionnuala Clarke among a crowd of players.
A good kickout from Katie McCann allowed Grace McCusker to drive forward, and her pass inside was turned into a point by Dana Coyle.
Tattyreagh enjoyed a strong period of play, scoring two goals and a point.
But a brilliant Drumragh team move involving Rihanna Mullin, Caitlin McCarron and Mairead Corrigan saw Aine O’Donnell score a nice point. And they were no let-up in the defensive effort from the home side. This was typified by a super block from Caitlin McCarron, when Tattyreagh seemed set to score again. Mia Feeney also stopped numerous Tattyreagh attacks with some important interceptions, setting Drumragh up on the attack. Substitutes Oonagh Pancott, Cora Walsh and Anna Clarke lent good support when introduced.
Aine O’Donnell, Rihanna Mullin and Jemma Barrett all hit quality points from play, while two further goals from Genevieve Norris completed the scoring. Another fantastic performance from Drumragh, maintaining their unbeaten start to the year.
