League defeat for Drumragh U14 girls

Drumragh U14 girls lost to Badoney in the league at Clanabogan Park last Sunday morning.

Badoney led at half-time after a close opening 30 minutes.

The Drumragh defence started in a purposeful manner with Lana Gormley, Carrie Dillon and Chloe Colton winning the ball back a number of times from threatening Badoney attacks. And from one of those turnovers, Drumragh opened the scoring. Myah Dillon, Lottie Gallagher and Jennifer Barrett moved the ball upfield to where Dearbhaille McLaughlin gathered possession. Dearbhaille took the ball past a couple of defenders and sent over a nice score.

Badoney hit back with two points to take the lead, but back came Drumragh with a Lily Keys goal. It was a fantastic move, started in the defence by Niamh Colton, and after a quick counter-attack Lily applied an excellent finish for the first goal of the contest.

Badoney answered back with a goal of their own, but Drumragh were playing well with the half-back trio of Alanna Murray, Hollie Sloan and Beth Darcy driving forward at every opportunity. Indeed, Drumragh were unfortunate that their good play was not reflected more on the scoreboard.

The away side tagged on a few points towards the end of the half.

Badoney opened the scoring in the second half, but Drumragh quickly responded with a nice point from play by Lily Keys. Emelia Lowry, Lainhan Donnelly and Emeli Cox did well to get the ball to Lily, who scored with a composed finish between the posts.

Subs Chloe McSwiggan, Amy Cox, Chloe McGale, Naomi Given and Leah Kelly all came on and did well throughout the second half. Drumragh didn’t have to wait long then for their second goal. Niamh Colton and Jennifer Barrett were involved in the build-up and Dearbhaille McLaughlin was there at the end to fire a good shot past the Badoney goalkeeper.

Badoney added on a few more scores before the full-time whistle to secure the win.
