Drumragh minor girls progressed to the next round of the championship with a good win over Pomeroy at Clanabogan Park on Tuesday evening.

It was another impressive performance from Drumragh who are looking to build on their league success from the previous week.

It was Drumragh who opened the scoring. Goalkeeper Katie McCann raced off her line to win the ball back, and it was moved upfield from there. Rihanna Mullin delivered a brilliant pass inside to Aine O’Donnell who scored a goal with a good finish. Aine then turned provider, laying the ball off to Genevieve Norris who got on the scoreboard with a nice point. That move began with strong defensive play from Lily O’Kane in the full-back line.

Pomeroy converted a free, but Drumragh responded through Caoimhe McCarron, who goaled after Cara Kerlin and Jemma Barrett had been involved in the lead-up.

The sides then swapped goals with Genevieve Norris on target for Drumragh.

The away side were playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half. However, with Mairead Corrigan, Caitlin McCarron and Fionnuala Clarke defending well, Drumragh were still able to go in ahead at the break. Genevieve Norris scored another goal following a strong run from Dana Coyle, while Rhianna Barrett added a good point after excellent play from Mia Feeney, who won the ball back when Pomeroy threatened going forward.

A quick counter-attack involving Lily O’Kane, Grace McCusker and Aine O’Donnell ended with a terrific score from Rihanna Mullin. There was no let up from Drumragh, with every player, including the subs introduced, playing to a high standard. Caitlin McCarron won the ball back which led to a goal chance for Genevieve Norris, and Genevieve made no mistake completing her hat-trick.

Emma McCloskey and Dana Coyle increased Drumragh’s lead with points, before Dana won a kickout, drove through the Pomeroy defence and fired to the back of the net.

The Drumragh defence, led by Fionnuala Clarke and Cara Kerlin, gave very little away in the second 30 minutes, restricting Pomeroy to a few points. And Drumragh then wrapped up the scoring when Emma McCloskey setting up Rhianna Barrett for a point.
