DRUMRAGH……….1-9 | MOORTOWN……….1-13
Drumragh reserves lost out to Moortown in the league at Clanabogan Park on Friday evening.
The visitors opened the scoring, but Benny Drumm quickly brought the teams level with a fine point from distance after a quick exchange of passes between Cahir McAnenly and Barry Kirwan.
Moortown kicked the next four points to open up a lead, with Drumragh needing vigilant defending from Blaine Feeney, John McCaul and Mark Carroll to prevent further scores. Sean McGale responded for Drumragh with a good point following a driving run through the Moortown defence after Ethan Maguire’s kickout had found him in space.
Moortown increased their lead with a quickfire goal and point, with Johnny Browne on target for Drumragh from a free after Sam Devlin had been fouled. Ryan McGuigan then fired over an excellent point after Conor Kelly and Barry Kirwan had created the chance. However, a couple of scores from the away side gave them a seven-point lead at the break.
The scoring in the second half was started by Moortown, but Drumragh soon got on the scoreboard in the second period when Ciaran Donaghy’s pass allowed Kevin Marron to send the ball over the bar. Adrian Colton was on target before Kevin added another brilliant point from play with Benny Drumm, Paddy Roche and Mattie O’Donnell involved in the build-up.
The teams swapped points with Cormac Dolan and Johnny Browne registering frees for Drumragh. But Drumragh needed goals, and they got one as the game entered injury time when Adrian Colton rose highest to flick the ball to the back of the net from Kevin Marron’s precise ball into the square.
Drumragh created another few goal chances, hitting the crossbar and forcing the Moortown goalkeeper into a good save from Sean O’Kane, but Moortown held onto that lead when the full-time whistle was blown.
