DRUMRAGH……….2-13 | MOORTOWN……….2-19

Drumragh senior men were beaten by Moortown on Friday evening in the league.

Drumragh made a confident start and established a 0-3 to 0-1 lead in the opening 10 minutes. Oran Devlin, Alex McGlinchey and Barry Fitzgerald were getting forward well to support the attack and that allowed Aaron Montgomery, Ronan Maguire and Eoin Montgomery to all land quality efforts from play.

Moortown came storming back to lead by a point, but Drumragh responded via Tommy Murphy, who pointed following a good midfield mark from Niall McCarney. The away side upped the pressure and that was reflected on the scoreboard with the first goal of the game and a number of points. Andy Colgan won the ball back and his pass allowed Kian Murphy to send over a great score with the outside of his right foot, while Malachy McManus quickly added another.

However, Moortown enjoyed a period of dominance kicking six points in-a-row. Scores from Paddy Colgan and Aaron Montgomery for Drumragh in first-half injury time left the visitors with a seven-point lead at the break.

A foul on Ronan Maguire gave Eoin Montgomery the opportunity to open the scoring in the second half, which he did. However, Moortown stretched out their lead with their second goal and a few points not long after.

Drumragh did not give in though and got to work in closing the gap. Gareth Haughey got on the scoresheet before James Broderick gathered a long ball in and finished low and hard to the back of the net.

Moortown responded with a good free, but Tommy Murphy then got in for goal number two. Tommy won possession near the corner, drove by his marker along the endline and shot past the goalkeeper. Eoin Montgomery then scored a wonderful point from play. Drumragh looked dangeorus when they went forward, and forced the Moortown goalkeeper into a couple of good saves. They needed to be alert at the back too. Goalkeeper James Colgan made a good save when faced one-on-one with an attacker, while a brave block from Eamonn Kerrigan also prevented a Moortown goal.

Tommy Murphy sent over another couple of scores from play, but Moortown were always able to respond with a score of their own to complete their win.
